This is possibly one of the most entertaining reviews of a store i've ever come across:

Toys R US - Geary Blvd.

and this is one of the most glowing:
Ocean Aquarium, Cedar Street

Both are extremely accurate.
Power to the people.

i am sick, bleh.

i spent the day inside. in bed or in the shower (three showers so far). I have whatever [info]pixystarr had. only my version included a migraine that made me sleep with my stuffed monkey over my head all afternoon trying not to throw up. This is the first time today that i've not felt like looking at a computer screen would make my head explode.

i got new fish yesterday. two baby barbs and two baby sharks. the baby barbs are fine, but the big shark has been terrorizing the babies. he was looking kind of sad lately so i hough having babies around would liven him up a little. i guess it did, just a little too much. i think they'll be okay for now, its two against one. New fish movie soon. I'm thinking of making it a podcast.

i threw three snails out today too. I feel bad about it. I dont like killing things. I just dont want them to ruin my tank like they did the last time. I tried to throw them through the dark, off the porch, down into the pond in the back yard, but i'm sure i missed at least twice.

This is a nice place to live. My two roomates were home in the afternoon and we were all on the porch in the sun talking. For the 15 minutes that I felt okay doing that I repotted plants and had tea. I wish the rest of the day could have been like that.

driving with fish

I just filled the new tank. The fish are frantic. They think they are in the ocean all of a sudden. I wasn't planning on moving them but when I got to my old house tonight my frog and the last remaining orange fish were dead. There are only the original six. One shark and five tiger barbs. I expected the last orange one to go, he managed to kill the two females, by constantly trying to chase and hump, but once they are gone, the males usually die as well. The frog was a surprise, he seemed pretty hearty. I think between the snail infestation and the dying plants (since the snails had eaten them almost completly) it had contaminated the water too much to be okay. I thought it could all wait till the weekend when they would get a new tank anyway, but I guess I was fatally incorrect.

I freaked out and started worrying that the others would die if I left them in there over night too. So caught them and packed them up into a tupperware container and a nalgene bottle and carted them across the bay.

I did a basic setup of the new tank - a thirty five gallon hexoganol one with an undergravel filter and some pretty blue stones - and ran a hose from the sink into the tank. The hose didnt fit so I had to stand there and hold the hose over the faucet and try not to get the whole kitchen wet. Treated the water and let the fish acclimate. The foof - off they go running in circles around the tank trying to figure out these new boundaries and seeming very excited to be out of the tupperware. I wanted to take another movie of them all being frantic but my camera batteries are charging.

I'm hoping it wont get too cold for them in the next day or so when i get a new heater. The old one wasnt doing a very good job and would have done jack shit in this bigger tank.
